The Helping Hand That Is Your OWN!!!
We are a Texas based non-profit organization, our mission is to help individuals & organizations with limited resources become self-sufficient. We do this by working with communities and organizations at the grassroots level, finding out what they need and help connect them to the resources they need to enrich their lives. BUFTX is an administrative, programmatic and fiscally responsible proactive institution. Since 1987 we have served as a major anchor for supporting and developing funding initiatives that facilitate the positive growth and development in under served communities. We create educational programs and provide necessary resources in underprivileged areas that spur individual and community change. We believe in smart fund allocation, and therefore we employ minimal staff.
Our programming is focused into one of seven areas:
- Community Health, Preparedness & Relief
- Culture (African & African American heritage, history, fine art & storytelling)
- Youth Development
- Workforce Development/Entrepreneurship
- Technology (increasing representation of underrepresented groups, manufacturing, bridging digital divide)
- Food Security (production, processing, preserving & distribution)
- Environment and Conservation
Houston Agri-Power (HAP)
Houston Agri-Power (HAP) is our solution to providing fresh affordable vegetables in food deserts across Houston and provide job training to youth (16-24) and ex-offenders. We have recently teamed up with Houston City Councilwoman At Large 4 Letitia Plummer and State Rep Jarvis Johnson and State Rep Harold Dutton to address food insecurity in Acres Homes and Fifth Ward as part of her #SeedTheNeed initiative.
We partner with other nonprofits to help them serve their respective communities. Check out an agency spotlight below…
The American Cowboy Museum is a twenty-one-year-old 501(c)(3) non-profit organization that educates people far and wide about the contributions of African Americans, Hispanics, Native Americans, and Women to the development of the American Western culture. Below is a video we did for our #VirtualAgCamp focusing on the Taylor-Stevenson Ranch with Broadcast Houston & Oral Historian Trina Walker. The #VirtualAgCamp was done in partnership with PVAMU 4-H with funding from the Houston Livestock Show & Rodeo.

We’re missing U. No matter your economic level, U can add value to the lives of those we serve.
U have the heart of PHILANTHROPY but how will U go from the DESIRE to the ACTION?
The obvious way is to give money, which is GREAT and VERY APPRECIATED, but U can share other resources that U have as well!!
Our DESIRE is to use resources to make substantive changes in COMMUNITIES we SERVE! Once U are added BUFTX is complete!
We have been an anchor in the communities we serve since 1987 through small sustaining gifts. Your gifts help us change lives and communities!
